Meet the Team

Abby Hammond

An accomplished legal and advocacy expert of 15+ years, Abby Hammond is the co-founder of Walk Up Advocacy.

Abby also teaches business law as a clinical instructor at the University of Alabama, empowering students in business to correctly identify and highlight issues within the business environment.

To this critical work, Abby brings her two-decade career in the law including time spent as a valued counsel at the NC Rules Review Commission (the body that reviews almost all rules before they are codified in the NC Administrative Code). She’s most recently led at NCAJ (North Carolina Advocates for Justice), serving as Director of Government Affairs overseeing lobbying efforts, legal affairs, and political action committee, and aligning the organization to reach its advocacy goals.

With her strong, deep skillset in litigation, advocacy, rulemaking, and administrative law, she holds an extensive education in this space including a JD from the University of South Carolina School of Law and a BS in Business Management from Clemson University. In everything she does, Abby works to help others identify issues and discover the best options to keep them moving forward.

Abby currently lives in Tuscaloosa, Alabama with her husband, Bob, and their two children. Outside of strategy, her favorite things include enjoying family time by the backyard pool, traveling to exciting destinations like Portugal, and indulging in the dark chocolate raspberry cake she can only find at Hayes Barton, a restaurant in Raleigh, NC. Baseball-wise, she roots for two major teams: her 11-year-old son’s travel ball team and, of course, the Cincinnati Reds.

Kim Crouch

A trusted public policy, government relations, and advocacy expert of 20+ years, Kim Crouch is the co-founder of Walk Up Advocacy.

An accomplished lawyer, Kim’s career began in child advocacy serving as the Director of Public Affairs for the NC Department of Juvenile Justice. She spent nearly 15 years serving as the Director of Government Relations for the NC Bar Association, where she led strategic legislative policy for legal professionals and honed her skills in coalition building, lobbying, and organizational management.

Prior to founding this practice, Kim most recently served as the Executive Director of NCAJ (North Carolina Advocates for Justice), where she managed the systems and staff of the organization with a constant focus on improving efficiency and providing excellent member service.

With strong experience in public affairs, political strategy, grassroots organization, coalitions, policy analysis, and leadership development, Kim also has deep education in these worlds including a JD from UNC School of Law and a BA from Syracuse University in Public Policy/Public Relations. In all that she does, she aims to “do good” and empower her clients to have action plans for doing the same.

Kim currently lives in Cary, North Carolina with her family. Beyond the world of advocacy, she enjoys hiking, traveling, and outdoor adventuring with her husband, Ed, and their kids.   She also savors quality time with girlfriends over tapas and wine. And when it comes to baseball - though she grew up in Buffalo, Kim reluctantly admits that she roots for the Houston Astros (Ed’s home team).
